How To Join

 

Membership is the heart of any volunteer organization, and without members there would be no volunteer fire department, rescue squad or EMS to serve the local community. Salem Fire & Rescue is proud to have a dedicated group of volunteers who risk their personal safety and life every day to help their neighbors in times of need. You too can become a valuable member of our department and experience the joy of knowing you are helping others. It will take hard work, dedication and constant training, but the reward of giving something back to your community will be well worth the effort!

Our minimum requirements include:

  • current resident of the Salem Fire & Rescue protection district                                       

  • at least eighteen (18) years of age

  • valid NC driver's license

Our department also has a Junior Firefighter Program for those individuals who are 16 or 17 years old and are interested in the fire service and becoming a full member at age 18.

If you are interested in joining our department to serve as a volunteer firefighter and you meet the minimum requirements, you may come by the department's Station 1 for an application packet Monday-Friday from 8 AM-4 PM or during our regularly scheduled departmental meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 7 PM.

If you would like to become an auxiliary member, you may come by during their meetings, which are held on the last Monday of each month at 7 PM.
